Sydney: Former New Zealand cricketer Chris Cairns is in stable condition after surgery. Cairns had collapsed in the Australian capital Canberra after falling ill and according to media reports was on life support.

Newshub’s sports presenter Andrew Gourdie tweeted: “The situation in Cairns has improved before being transferred to St. Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney. He has had surgery. The condition of Cairns is critical, but he is stable and in the ICU.

Earlier, in another tweet, he had said, ‘There has been a rumor that Cairns needs a heart transplant, this is not true. Transplantation is possible, but surgeons will see how his heart is working.
