The second Test match between hosts West Indies and South Africa began on Friday. On the first day of the match, the rain was interrupted in the beginning but soon the rain stopped and the play of 82 overs was possible. In the match, West Indies team won the toss and decided to bowl first. Initially, the South African innings faltered but later captain Dean Elgar and Quinton de Kock took over the innings. By the end of the first day’s play, South Africa had scored 218 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

In the second over of the first day of the match, Shannon Gabriel gave the first blow to the visiting team by dismissing opener Aiden Markram (0). Shortly after, three wickets for South Africa fell within 37 runs amidst incessant rain and game interruption. Seals dismissed Keegan Pietersen (7) while Kemar Roach cheaply bowled Rasi van der Dussen (4).

However, South African captain Dean Elgar remained firmly on one end. Kyle Wren supported him for some time and Elgar completed his half-century during this period. He kept his team on track by playing a fine and restrained innings of 77 runs in 237 balls before being bowled by Kyle Myers. He hit 8 fours in this innings.

After Dean Elgar, the team’s experienced wicket-keeper batsman Quinton de Kock took the responsibility and handled the innings in the middle order. Quinton de Kock also scored a half-century and he remained till the end of the day’s play.

De Kock remains unbeaten on 59 runs in 103 balls and is supporting Wian Mulder (2 not out). Shannon Gabriel took 2 wickets for West Indies on the first day. While Kemar Roach, Jaden Seals and Kyle Myers took 1-1 wickets.
